Aircraft parts, pressure vessels, seals or pipe systems made from fiber-reinforced composite materials based on plastomers (e.g., CFRP) are increasingly being used to replace conventional constructions in steel or aluminum. They offer weight reductions of up to 70%, with improved mechanical characteristics.
Tape laying and tape wrapping of fiber-reinforced plastics are, for example, fields of application for Laserline’s diode lasers that were tapped into at an early stage. The CFRP tapes that had been laid or wrapped are welded with the help of LDM diode lasers. These methods are used for the production of seamless tubes (such as for the offshore area), among other products.
